If you have a criminal problem or other type of issue, you should go to a lawyer who has a specialty in that field. If you have an OPMC or OPD issue, you should likewise go to an attorney who has a great deal of experience there. Why? Because the rules are totally different than they are in criminal court or civil court or matrimonial court or anywhere else. You have to know these rules, and you have to have a lawyer who knows these rules.
If you agree to something that seems to get you out of a problem, like probation or practice monitor, you may turn around and find out that while you still have your license, you have no patients, because you are not able to treat anybody from an HMO or Medicare or Medicaid. You have to know the rules, and you have to know where you’re going to end up after agreeing to something with OPMC. Only an experienced lawyer in this field can do that.
