Paul E. Walker

Paul E. Walker is a graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Following graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Navy and then enrolled in and graduated from Fordham Law School. Mr. Walker served as a Legal Assistant to the Honorable Edward Thompson, Administrative Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York. He then became associated with Anthony L. Schiavetti, Esq., the in-house law firm for Employers Insurance of Wausau, in New York City. With that office, Mr. Walker concentrated on the defense of medical malpractice cases. In 1979, Mr. Walker joined Alexander Peltz to form the firm of Peltz and Walker. That association continued until 2012 when Mr. Peltz retired from the practice of law. Mr. Walker then became counsel to the New York City Medical Malpractice Defense Firm, DOPF, PC.
Mr. Walker has been selected as a New York State Super Lawyer since 2008.
Mr. Walker represents physicians and other healthcare providers in issues involving the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC) and the Office of Professional Discipline (OPD). This area of practice involves inquiries by the New York State Department of Health or Department of Education in the healthcare providers professional conduct and can lead to proceedings in which the State considers whether such conduct warrants suspension or revocation of one’s license.
Mr. Walker represents physicians, nurses, and others when they attempt to restore a previously revoked license. This is a process that must be delicately addressed and requires experienced assistance.
Additionally, Mr. Walker represents all healthcare providers in disputes with their employers. These employers are usually hospitals or medical practices and an adverse result which ends with a termination of employment or a limitation on some areas of practice can cause further damage from an investigation by the state.
Mr. Walker also assists physicians when they are challenged by Medicare, Medicaid and their HMO’s regarding claims of improper billing for medical services.
Mr. Walker has tried in excess of 125 medical malpractice cases to verdict in the courts of New York State and the Federal District Courts. The subject matters of these cases are varied and include all medical specialties. This representation includes acting as the attorney for the Hospital for Special Surgery, Lenox Hill Hospital, the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and numerous physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers. Mr. Walker has been a lecturer at the Hospital for Special Surgery Annual Knee Symposium. Mr. Walker is the past President of the New York State Medical Malpractice Defense Association and continues on as a member of the Board of Directors of that organization. Mr. Walker has been selected as a New York Super Lawyer every year since 2010. This selection is accomplished through a selection process that involves peer nominations, panel review and independent research of candidates.
Mr. Walker is admitted to practice in the State of New York, The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. Court of Military Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Walker has an “AV” rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
